YOUTH MEDIA DIALOGUE "Our Environment, Our Year, Our Voice"
Related to country: Nigeria
|
Thousands of young adults will converge in Abuja August 16, 2010. for a YOUTH MEDIA DIALOGUE 201o with the Theme: “Climate Change:Our Year,Our Voice” the first national youth summit to solve the climate crisis. Youth of all backgrounds will use their experience from local and state level climate change movements to create a fresh, positive, and inspiring vision of the future, one focused on our potential to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, build a clean energy economy, achieve energy independence, create millions of green jobs, increase global equity, and revitalize the Nigerian economy.
The event will take the climate movement to new levels. At this conference, leaders of our generation will share ideas, learn new skills, make new connections, establish a national voice for our generation, and send a united message to our national leaders: we are moving beyond the same old special interests, empty promises, and inadequate results to embrace a new paradigm that leverages our strengths and achieves what is possible for our future. Something incredible is happening.
Youth Media dialogue organizing committee has set out three ambitious goals:
1. Make the Nigerian President and National Assembly take global warming seriously through NASPA . It is widely accepted that the next Nigerian president must make global warming a priority for us to solve the crisis before we reach a point of no return. With youth voting rates on the rise, we have the opportunity to drastically affect the 2011 Presidential Election and ensure our next president puts us on a path to stopping climate change.
2. Empower a truly diverse network of young leaders. The organizers of Power Shift understand the limitations of mainstream environmentalism and its history of engaging primarily adult, highly educated, privileged citizens on the left while leaving behind other communities. We must diversify our movement to include every community in Nigeria and shift our culture towards one of sustainability and justice for everyone, addressing traditional racial, ethnic, geographic, and ideological divisions.
3. Achieve broad geographic diversity. We want this convergence to represent nearly every geo-political zone in the Nigeria in order to demand scientifically based solutions from all who represent us. Only when this fire is burning in every state of the Nation with broad awareness and pointed activism from the ground up, will we have the political power needed to take on the fossil fuel industry.

Sweet words are easy to say, Sweet things are easy 2 buy, but sweet people are difficult to find. Life ends when u stop dreaming, hope ends when u stop believing, love ends when u stop caring, friendship ends when u stop sharing. To love without condition.....................to talk without intention.........to give without reason............and to care without expectation.......is the heart of a true friend

LETTER OF ASSISTANCE

LETTER OF ASSISTANCE
With due respect, I humbly write to solicit your support both morally and financially towards my academic pursuit.
My name is Idowu Olumide Emmanuel. I hail from the peaceful land of Osun, Nigeria and to the family of Idowu Olufemi. Fate was very unfaithful to me to have lost both parents at my tender age.
As the same fate will have it, coupled with the determination on my parts to have higher education, I have been offered admission to read Computer Science in the University of Abuja.
Self sponsorship as was my case during my primary and secondary levels was very challenging. I know tertiary self sponsorship will be more challenging, that is why I have to lean on a stronger shoulder so as to become a bonafide student of the University, as my registration fees is yet to be paid.
I shall be eternally grateful for your Godly assistance towards the realization of my dream.
Thanks

Seeking for help

Hey all!
I know I am probably overposting here, but anyway, I just learnt that one of TIG members bams07 is unable to continue his university studies in Nigeria because of financial issues...
For two years of a five year program in a computer department of the University in Abuja, Nigeria he needs 300 dollars and he doesnt have that means...
Problem is that these 300 dollars will let him continue his studies for two more years and otherwise he will have to drop out and I am not sure what will happen to him afterwards..
We had a yahoo chat and I thought maybe the organizations or individuals, with more or less affordable means, could help him with that sum and I suggested to post this message in hope to find someone who would help.
As I found out he doesnt have a bank account, nor des he have a passport. So the only way to send him money, any amoun would be welcome, is to do that via Western Union on the name of:
IDOWU OLUMIDE EMMANUEL,
ABUJA,
NIGERIA
I never did a similar call, nor did I know where topost this message to have the maximum of attention. But I think if we are community and are striving for a better future we need tohelp each other in these moments...
In hope of some responses, and thanks in advance for any possible donation.
Best Regards,
Hayk
